Puerto Vallarta (pop. 185,000), a jewel on Mexico’s Pacific
Coast, is what vacation dreams are made of. The city’s tropical climate with palm trees, sandy white beaches, and
more than 300 sunny days a year make it a great all-season destination.
Once a quiet fishing village, the city gained worldwide fame when director John Huston filmed 'The Night of the
Iguana' in 1963. But it wasn’t so much the filming that received attention-it was the scandalous extramarital
affair between stars Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Both were married to others at the time and the paparazzi
followed their every move. The publicity was good for Puerto Vallarta. Investors flocked to the city in the 1970s
and made it the booming resort town that it is today.
Nowadays, most people come to Puerto Vallarta simply to relax on the beach or go snorkeling or scuba
diving.
But why not stroll downtown. The 16-block boardwalk (Malecón) is lined with charming shops, bars, and
restaurants. Or mosey over to the town square (Zócalo) for people-watching and an ice cream.
Just a block away from the square is Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is not only a beautiful church, but also the
city’s top landmark.
The Beaches of Banderas Bay offer every water
activity imaginable, including excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, sports fishing, swimming, parasailing and jet
skiing. You will find Puerto Vallarta gay beaches as well. Each of its beach communities provide a variety of
places to have a casual drink or snack by the water...or just to sit and watch one of the area’s legendary
sunsets.
For sure, you will want to take one of the many
Puerto Vallarta tours that are available. You
will see resorts and hideaways that are off the beaten path, with densely foliated private lagoons and wildlife, as
depicted in the movie filmed here, Night of the Iguana, which put Puerto Vallarta on the tourist map practically
overnight.
Eat lunch and slide down the waterfall where
Arnold Schwarzenegger defeated the ‘Predator’. Glide through the jungle, 100’s of feet in the air, Tarzan style on
the Puerto Vallarta Canopy Tour.
Restaurants and Nightlife abound in the Vallarta area, with many popular night clubs
including gay nightclubs and a full range of restaurants offering every cuisine from around the globe. Many feature
internationally recognized chefs.
It's a shoppers' paradise with traditional market stalls as well as designer boutiques, fine art
galleries and handicrafts from every corner of Mexico.
Even out of the water, innumerable activities,
will keep you entertained, for your entire stay. Puerto Vallarta has become a world class golf destination with
seven spectacular courses. The list of activities goes on and on with hot air ballooning, mountain biking, bungee
jumping, tennis, you name it!

Puerto Vallarta is without a doubt, one of the friendliest and
most desirable beach destinations in all of Mexico.
