Things to do in Mazatlan
Tours and Mazatlan Activities
Mazatlan tours and a multitude of other diversions and things to do in Mazatlan can
offer you a break from the sea and sun when you feel the need.
There all sorts of things to do in Mazatlan. There are tours to the nearby foothills that highlight some
interesting old mining towns, quaint streets and very beautiful churches. Mazatlan tours in and around the area
reveal many points of interest and history. Mazatlan activities to beaches, jungles and hiking.
Here are a few tours that you can participate in, whether you are vacationing in Mazatlan or just visiting for
the day from a cruise ship. All of these tours will pick you up or drop you off at your Hotel lobby or at the
Cruise Ship dock.
• Stone Island
• Mazatlan Historical Center Walking Tour
• Walking & Boat Ecological Tour
• Sportfishing
• Copala Tour
• Tequila Tour
Warning of Mazatlán Tour scams:
There are some street vendors that may offer you a tour, sport fishing or other activities at reduced prices. They
want you to pay immediately. They will give you a receipt or ticket that has a tour operator logo, name and
numbers. The ticket may look very real but may very well be fake. There is nothing you can do once you buy them.
These people are very friendly and nice, and will befriend you. Some of these may be legit, but some aren’t.
My advice is to Book your Mazatlan Tour with confidence through Expedia NOW ! If not here, purchase
tours and activities through your resort, hotel or on your cruise ship. There are legitimate salesmen at booths in
front of the resorts also.
Stone Island Tour
- about 5-6 hours
 |
|
Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island) is a place to get away from the crowds. Located at
the southern end of the city, the island is absolutely beautiful. Stone
island beach stretches on for 10km. There are plenty of beach activities. Included is, lunch, open bar on
the boat and at the beach (beer, mixed drinks, water, soft drinks), Catamaran boat ride and beach
activities.
As you can see, Stone Island is a great place to relax and spend the day!
We had beer, chips and salsa all day for $15 usd...such a deal!
Perhaps a temporary henna tatoo to remember your new lizard buddies! The henna tattoos last for
several days, although the claim is two weeks.

One real, one henna - tattoos for two.
Copala Mountain Tour
- about 6 hours
An interesting tour towards the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. On the way to Copala you will have an
excellent view of mountain scenery. You will see and visit the historical and picturesque colonial villages of
Concordia and Copala. During the tour you will be able to admire the hand made furniture, pottery and brick
factories, the Rustic Bakery and Saint Sebastián Church. With only 600 residents in Copala, you can stroll on
quaint cobblestone streets to see rustic colonial buildings, The San José Church and an adorable little square.
Also, the tour is complemented with original works of art from local artists.
Photos above - The bus stopped by a local school during
the mountain tour. The kids were preparing for a Mother's day pageant. They were glad to see tourists and get
a chance to practice English.
Tequila Factory Tour
- about 5 hours
The Tequila Tour takes you east of Mazatlan toward La Noria Village where you
can watch natives craft hand make leather sandals, saddles and pottery. Where, of course, you can purchase the
handicrafts.
Then you visit "La Vinata," the only Tequila Distillery in the state of
Sinaloa. Where, again, you can purchase the handicrafts, in this case, tequila.
The tour continues to El Habal village a typical ranch in the Mexican State of
Sinaloa. You may eat at the "El Habaleño Restaurant" which has been famous for many years.
Photo left above - Here you see the old grinding stone that was used in days of old, to mash and grind the Agave
cactus from which tequila is made. Below it are the storage containers.
Side - Check out the size of this ancient tree on the grounds of the Tequila factory.
OLD MAZATLAN WALKING TOUR
- about 3-4 hours
This Mazatlan day tour visits the Historical Zone to give you an insight into Mazatlan’s past while walking and
admiring 200 year old buildings. English speaking tour guides will explain the architecture style of each building
and the legends that each building has attained over the years. You will see the oldest town bakery, Casa Machado
Museum, The Majestic Angela Peralta Theater, Nidart Leather Mask Artisans, Casa Antigua, Bahia Restaurant - where
you can taste the traditional "Ceviche" (cold shrimp soup) and The Top of Freeman Hotel - from here you will see a
spectacular view of Old Mazatlan.
Hiking and Boat Ride Tour Mazatlan Ecological Tour
About 6-7 hours
Highly recommended for hikers and bird watchers and for those who son't mind some exercise and explore Mother
Nature. This hike will take you to the highest natural lighthouse in the world, 515 feet high. You will definitely
have the best view of the entire city of Mazatlan and the surroundings, don’t forget the camera. The tour guide
will explain all sorts of historical facts and trivia. Then the boat will take you through natural canals and
mangrove wetlands. There are fish jumping all over in front of the boat as you wind your way into the deep jungle.
You will have the opportunity to see an abundance of birds and other wildlife during this interesting
adventure.
Sport fishing
Sport fishing has focused worldwide attention on Mazatlan for many years. Mazatlan was attracting big game
fishermen from all over the world long before it became a resort destination. The sport fishing fleet in Mazatlan
is spread out, with many boats in the old harbor near the lighthouse. Many more are located in Marina El Cid or
Marina Mazatlan, at the north end of the Golden Zone. The fishing is excellent year-round for Marlin and many other
species. If you want to go, check into a charter early in your trip to insure availability of your requested
boat/excursion type.
The Aquarium
Not exactly a Mazatlan tour, but a fun thing to do in Mazatlan. You may visit and explore at your leisure with no
set timelines. Don’t expect an American style Sea World, but it is interesting none the less. The aquarium in
Mazatlan is said to be Mexico's largest and offers a variety of sea life including a shark tank. Trained seal shows
and many exhibits also are highlighted. The aquarium also has an interesting tropical botanical park with an
interesting array of birds and amphibians.
