Surfing Mazatlan

Mazatlan surfing offers plenty of action! There are plenty of fun waves and several point breaks to make Mazatlan surfing a fun activity while you are in Mazatlan enjoying your Mexico vacation.

While Mazatlan isn't a world-class surfing destination, the close proximity of the beaches makes surfing Mazatlan and boogie-boarding within easy reach of vacationers.

Las Brujas and Cerritos beaches north of town offer the best surfing and the fewest crowds. More on these Mazatlan beaches below.

Small swell today, but rideable.

Playa Norte/Los Pinos.

When you're surfing Mazatlan, check out the point break between North Beach (Playa Norte) and Playa los Pinos beaches that offers some pretty good surfing, long rides if the swell is coming from the right direction. If the swell comes from the southwest, the break becomes ideal. This point is along the boardwalk between the “Fisherman’s Monument and the lighthouse, right in the heart of Mazatlan beaches.

Decent swell, pretty good shape.

Here you see Valentino's disco

If you are on your Mexico vacation, staying on Mazatlan’s Golden zone, there is some decent Mazatlan surfing within walking distance. Check out the point break at “Punta (point) Camaron” next to Valentino’s disco castle between Playa Sabalos and Playa Marlin. The surf can get fairly large here; it’s not uncommon for there to be a 4-6 foot swell here with a left or right point break depending on where the swell is coming from.

If you want to get away from the city, and find a larger swell, check out Playa Bruja  and Punta Cerritos, Cerritos Beach. Cerritos beach surfing Mazatlan is located about 6 or 7 miles north of the city it is reachable by riding any of the “Cerritos” busses for about .80 cents US.

The painting on the rocks let you know you have found Brujas (Witches) beach!

Not too big today, but the swells have some shape and aren't usually walled off.

These surfing beaches are quite remote by 'tourist resort' standards. Most of the locals go here and there are very few people in the water.
